Mandy is an Integrative Child Psychotherapist who works therapeutically with children and young people age 5-17 years in the Worthing, Shoreham and Hangleton areas of Sussex.
Mandy works with the children and young people individually using the arts and play, alongside talking, to develop and promote their emotional and psychological wellbeing. Using an ‘integrative’ approach means Mandy draws upon a range of psychological theories and applications – including attachment theory, object relations theory and cutting edge neuroscience – to work most effectively with each individual child/young person’s unique circumstances and needs.
Mandy’s speciality is providing long-term psychotherapeutic treatment for in-depth understanding and exploration of difficulties and using the therapeutic relationship as the primary vehicle for long-lasting change.
Mandy works with a wide range of issues and difficulties which may be causing concern, including anxiety, bereavement, self-harm, behaviour difficulties. Mandy has a special interest in working with children and young people who have experienced early trauma including abuse, neglect, violence, and where early significant relationships may have been stressful and frightening rather than warm and nurturing. Mandy’s work also includes working with children and young people with special needs and learning difficulties.
Mandy holds a Master’s Degree in Integrative Child Psychotherapy from The Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education, London, where she graduated in 2013. Mandy also holds an Advanced Diploma in the Therapeutic Application of the Arts, as well as a Certificate in Counselling Skills.
Since 2011 when she started her very first placement Mandy has carried out much of her work in schools and colleges across West Sussex. Mandy likes how working with children and young people in their learning environment allows children access to therapy which they may not otherwise get. Combined with her private practice this helps Mandy to work in what she feels is a more socially responsible way.
As well as working with children and young people individually Mandy feels it is important to work holistically with the important people in their lives and welcomes discussion with parents, carers and professionals to offer support and advice and, where appropriate, psychotherapeutic advocacy.
Mandy is a registered member with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and The Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education (IATE) and adheres to a strict ethical code. Mandy has professional indemnity insurance and an up-to-date enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) Certificate.
