How Does Acupuncture Work?
Acupuncture has been part of traditional Chinese medicine and practised for thousands of years in Eastern Countries.
The Acupuncturist will insert very fine needles at accurately located points (xuewei 穴位) to connect with your body’s energy – called Qi in Chinese medicine. The aim is to direct the flow of Qi to trigger your body’s healing response and to restore physical, emotional and mental equilibrium.
The needles can integrate Qi which runs in the meridians of the body. This Qi exists everywhere, and it flows like an electric circuit in the bone structure, tissues and organs through the meridian systems.

Cupping 拔罐
Cupping is used to generally relieve muscular knots, aches, and pains by stimulating the Qi and blood to the area. It can also be used for internal issues when combined with acupuncture.
The cups are made of glass in different sizes. A vacuum condition is created by lighting a fire inside the cup before putting it on certain areas of the body.
Shoulders and back are the most common areas to receive cupping treatments.
Marks may appear after the treatment. The colour maybe from mild red to red or purple. They indicate how well the blood and Qi are circulating in the area. The marks should disappear with 1 to 2 days depending on the colour.

Acupressure
Physical pressure is applied to acupuncture points to stimulate the blood and Qi in the meridians. This is often used for patients for whom needling may not be appropriate such as a patient with needle phobia, a very frail patient or to an injured area.
Acupressure can also be prescribed to the patients to do it at home if they like.
Acupressure is available with Sunny.
